Generous Gift Supports Future Students
Gordon T. Carter |
Gordon T. Carter comes from a loyal University of Alabama household. For college, it was an easy decision to follow in the footsteps of his siblings.
"The University is in my heart," Gordon says. UA is also in Gordon's philanthropic plan as he has named UA as a beneficiary of three of his individual retirement accounts (IRAs) totaling $1.3 million.
Gordon's motivation was simple: "There are a lot of kids who can't afford college."
As a graduate of the College of Arts & Sciences, Gordon credits his education for preparing him for a successful career as an attorney.
Part of his gift will fund scholarships in the College of Arts & Sciences. The rest will support his fraternity: Phi Kappa Psi.
"We are so grateful for Gordon's generosity," says Vance Bristow, assistant vice president for planned giving. "These gifts will make a real impact."
Once Gordon's fraternity brothers learned about his contributions, they expressed interest in doing something similar. Gordon told them it was easy to name UA as a beneficiary of an IRA. To start the process, supporters simply need to complete a change-of-beneficiary form and turn it in to their plan administrator.
"I was really impressed with the University," he says. "They were very accommodating."
Thanks to Gordon's generosity, his love for the Capstone will become a legacy that impacts the lives of UA students for years to come.
